  • How does chiropractic work?

Chiropractic works by restoring your body's inborn ability to be healthy. When under the proper control of your nervous system, all your body's cells, tissues, and organs are designed to resist disease and ill health. The chiropractic approach to better health is to locate and remove interferences (subluxations, misaligned vertebrae) to your nervous system. With improved spinal function, there is improved nervous system function.

The chiropractor's goal is to remove interference that may impair normal health through specific chiropractic adjustments, allowing your body to heal itself. A healthy spine and a healthy lifestyle are the keys to optimal health!

  • Is chiropractic safe?

Yes. Chiropractic has an excellent safety record. It is the result of a conservative and natural approach to health that avoids invasive procedures or addictive drugs. As proof, one must compare malpractice rates between chiropractors and other health care professionals. Chiropractors' malpractice premiums are a small fraction of those for medical doctors.

  • Are chiropractors "real" doctors?

Yes. The degree chiropractors hold is "D.C.," which stands for Doctor of Chiropractic. Becoming a chiropractor takes on an average of seven years (typically four years of the undergraduate curriculum and 3-4 years of doctorate curriculum) of school in a curriculum similar to a medical doctor's education (instead of training in pharmacology and surgery, chiropractors have more training in radiology, neurology, and spinal adjusting techniques).

Chiropractic colleges are accredited by the Council of Chiropractic Education (CCE) and are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

To receive a license to practice chiropractic, comprehensive State and National Board examinations must be passed, and continuing education must be earned each year.

  • What is an adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is the art of using a specific force in a precise direction, applied to a subluxated joint that is "locked up" or not moving correctly. This safe and natural procedure eliminates interference to the nervous system, improving spinal function and overall health; gentle spinal adjustments boost your body's immunity.

  • What is posture and how does it affect me?

Posture is the way your body is held upright against gravity. Proper posture promotes the correct alignment of your spine and decreases stress along the spinal column. Poor posture can have adverse effects on your body. When the spinal column is not in the correct position, it can add abnormal stress to various areas of your body. This can be the reason for tight shoulders, sore lower back, and an aching neck.

Poor posture comes from our daily stresses in life. We have poor posture for various reasons, mostly from sedentary lifestyles. Sitting at the computer, driving, playing video games, and watching TV can all be causes of poor posture.

Proper ergonomics and being more conscious of your posture can all help; however, seeing a chiropractor can positively impact your posture!

So when your mother always told you to straighten up, she was right!

  • Are all chiropractors the same?

Yes and no. There are various schools of thought within chiropractic. Most chiropractors believe that removing subluxations as the root cause of problems is essential to our profession. Others think that we are strictly here to treat back issues. Hence, the reason why chiropractic care can vary from office to office.

You must decide what your goals are with chiropractic care. Whether you just want to get out of a painful crisis, make lifestyle changes for a more active approach to your healthcare, or both! Regardless of what your goals are, it is essential to find a chiropractor that works for you!

  • If I hurt too much, should I come in to get adjusted?

ABSOLUTELY! There are many ways of adjusting. If you aren't feeling well or have some issue going on, for example a fracture or infection, it needs to be identified. We have low force adjusting techniques, so if you are not sure if you can handle your usual adjustment, let us know and we can alter what we do in order to get you adjusted! It is crucial to follow your care plan in order to make the most out of your chiropractic treatments!

  • If I feel great, do I have to get adjusted?

Just like the previous question, ABSOLUTELY! Again, it is crucial to follow your chiropractor's care plan in order to make the most out of your treatment! Just because you feel well, does not mean that your spine is aligned. Spinal alignment is important to maintain optimal nervous system function.

  • Can children get adjusted and is it safe for them?

Absolutely without a doubt. The first trauma we experience is birth. While it is a beautiful process, it typically is traumatic both for baby and mother. As babies are born, there is a lot of twisting, turning, pulling, and pushing on the baby.

This can cause issues in the child's spine. Chiropractic is safe for people of all ages, especially children. By maintaining the integrity of the spinal and removing potential interference in your child's nervous system, it could have positive implications in your child's future.
